Conversations with business owners and managers are one key to the success of a BID because ultimately the BID is for the benefit of businesses, run by the businesses in the designated area.
As part of the ongoing consultation with businesses in the BID area, this month we are delivering by hand copies of the SW BID Autumn Update.
It does what it says on the tin. It's a summary update of everything the BID team have been doing over the summer, some suggested proposals for the BID Business Plan and an outline of the next steps. There is also a summary FAQ. Because we can't include everything in those 12 pages, there are tonnes more FAQs on this website that you can navigate with the various headings above.
Also in the Autumn Update we've outlined the main themes from all the conversations we've had with over the summer and included some stats from the online survey 84 of you responded to from a good mix of business sectors in our Town. 38% were Independent or local retailers, 14% were Multiple Retail, 13% Business and Professional Services 8% Food and Drink, and 8% Health ad Beauty. These percentages correlate with the proportion of these sectors within the BID district.
The online survey was one of the many ways of engaging with business owners and managers. We've walked door to door and spoken to everyone who was in their business and available to talk to us, going back if they were not free at the time. We also held nine workshops. All this input has been included and taken as feedback and is the basis for the creation of the business plan. The total number of businesses with whom we’ve had a detailed 2-way conversation is now 135. In case you're wondering about the empty properties, we're are currently working with UDC and others to contact the property owners of empty units so that we can deliver the Newsletter and Business Plan to them.
