This summer, Saffron Walden’s very own Olympic Athlete, “Saffy” is hiding in shops and business windows in the town centre. It’s the trail finders mission to find the six Saffy’s wearing the Olympic Gold Medals. However trail finders will need to look extra carefully as many won’t be wearing gold medals!

This is the annual summer trail launched by the Business Improvement District to coincide with the Paris Olympics 2024 to provide free family fun over the summer holidays.

The Going for Gold trail involves searching for six Saffy gold medallists hidden in each of the six Olympic sports zones: The town centre has been divided up into six different Olympic sports zones: Hockey, Surfing, Badminton, Track, Skateboarding and Table Tennis.

Identify where the six Saffy gold medallists are located, complete the form and collect the prize from the Tourist Information Centre. Completed forms will also be entered into a prize draw to win vouchers to be spent in local businesses. This year many local shops and businesses are offering special promotions and discounts to those who have completed the trail, details will be found at the Tourist Information Centre and on the trail leaflet.

Shara Vickers, chair of the BID Said: “Our trails are really popular with families and helps show them all the fantastic shops, restaurants and businesses which we have to offer. Last year over 300 families took part in our summer trail and this year we are hoping even more will join in. They are such fun, free and easy to do. We hope people have lots of fun this summer exploring our beautiful town centre; make sure you wear comfy shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking!.”

Every week the Saffy gold medallists will run to new locations, so trail finders can take part every week. The trail will run from Friday 26th July to Saturday 31st August, very much targeting the summer holiday crowds.

What people say about Saffron Walden

I am glad to be involved with the BID and to represent disabled people’s interests and ensure Saffron Walden is a place where people with disabilities are comfortable and safe to visit and shop.

The BID will enable growth, relevance and strength ensuring the town works together for its future. This an exceptional opportunity.

We are excited to have been given the democratic mandate to work together so we can better realise the potential for Saffron Walden’s businesses with this major investment over the next five years. I have no doubt the BID will make a real difference in our town and help businesses to thrive. Working together is the way forward.

Saffron Walden is a beautiful town that is very well kept. There is always something fun to do for families with children or adults!

It’s beautiful, safe, friendly and has loads of great shops, cafés & pubs. The Saturday market especially is brilliant.

It has character, friendly people and community spirit. Shops are also great! Always lots going on.
